Work with Katachi Studio
Katachi Studio is a design and consultancy practice working across architecture, interior environments, furniture, object design, and creative consultancy.
Our work is guided by the pursuit of balance between physical and spiritual functionality. We consider how spaces and objects support everyday needs, attention, ritual, and emotional connection. Material honesty, craftsmanship, and the relationship between people and their surroundings inform our decisions at every scale.
We welcome people who share this approach and bring their own perspective to the studio: designers and collaborators who can connect thoughtful ideas with careful development and execution.
Emotional heritage
We seek to create spaces and objects that can become valued through time and use. Emotional heritage includes what we inherit, as well as what we create in the present with the potential to be remembered, maintained, and passed forward.
Collaboration and responsibility
We value clear communication, openness to discussion, and care for shared work. Collaborators are expected to take responsibility for their contributions, communicate constraints early, and participate thoughtfully in developing and reviewing ideas.

About the Role
You will translate design concepts, sketches, and references into accurate 3D models and technical drawings.
The position focuses on modeling, detailing, and communicating how an object is constructed. You will help document dimensions, components, materials, hardware, and assembly methods for design review, supplier coordination, and prototype development.
Work will be developed under studio guidance and reviewed before it is shared with fabricators.
Responsibilities
3D Modeling
Build and refine models from sketches, measurements, reference images, and studio direction.
Organize components and assemblies so models can be revised and documented efficiently.
Explore construction and assembly options under the studio’s guidance.
Prepare native files and agreed export formats for review and coordination.
Technical Documentation
Prepare dimensioned plans, elevations, sections, and component drawings.
Develop assembly drawings, exploded views, and connection details where required.
Document materials, finishes, hardware, and component information.
Assist with component lists and material schedules.
Check consistency between models, dimensions, and drawing sheets.
Prototyping and Fabricator Coordination
Prepare drawing packages for supplier pricing and prototype fabrication.
Incorporate approved feedback from fabricators and prototype reviews.
Identify missing dimensions, conflicting information, and unresolved details.
Document revisions and maintain an organized record of project development.
Qualifications
Currently studying or recently graduated in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or a related discipline.
Working proficiency in a relevant modeling platform, such as Rhino, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks.
Ability to prepare clear, dimensioned technical drawings.
Basic understanding of materials, fabrication processes, and assembly methods.
Strong attention to dimensions, proportions, and detail.
Ability to follow design direction, communicate questions, and incorporate feedback.
Organized file management and reliable communication.
A portfolio demonstrating technical drawings and 3D modeling. Academic and self-initiated projects are welcome.
Additional Skills We Value
Familiarity with furniture detailing, joinery, metal fabrication, or hardware.
Experience with physical models, woodworking, CNC fabrication, or 3D printing.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or comparable drawing software.
Experience documenting prototypes or developing component schedules.
Rendering skills are welcome, but the primary responsibilities are technical drawings and modeling.
Learning and Supervision
The internship provides direct feedback on modeling methods, drawing standards, detailing, and communication with fabricators. The level of responsibility will develop according to the intern’s capabilities and the requirements of each project.
